Catastrophe
A downloadable game for Windows
Description
Catastrophe is a multiplayer platformer/brawler where players must compete for space atop buildings to escape an oncoming flood. However, the buildings are unstable, and can only hold a certain number of players at a time, so you have to be careful, or your safe spot will come crumbling down!
There is no limit to the number of players in Catastrophe. Use your smartphone as a controller and drop in at any time.
Catastrophe won the Sprint Week game jam at Sheridan College in 2017 :3

Install instructions
Setting Up the Game
Download the zip folder for the game onto your computer.
Extract the zip folder to wherever you want the game to be stored (i.e. desktop).
Open the extracted folder.
Inside, there should be a .exe file. Right click that file and choose "Create Shortcut".
Right click the shortcut you created and select "Properties".
Add the following text to the end of the "Target" field: " --hft-installation-mode", then press OK.
Be sure to include the space, but not the quotes.
Run the shortcut, and the game should run.
Joining the Game
To join the game, take any smart device and connect to the same wifi network as the computer running the game.
In your device's web browser, type the IP address of the computer running the game.
You can find your computer's IP address by typing "ipconfig" into Command Prompt and using the IPv4 Address number.
After entering the IP into the browser, a button and a D-pad should appear on the screen of your smart device (make sure it is held in portrait mode), and a cat should appear on the computer screen.
Drop in as many players as you want, and have fun!
(Press alt+F4 to quit)

I just tried it with my brother, this was so fun and probably would be better with way more people! :D
The controller sometimes gets a bit buggy, but it's fun nonetheless :))
Oh awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed and were able to get it to work, I know the controller stuff is a little funky 😛
I did the shortcut thing and typed the IP in my phone's browser but it said "unable to open the webpage". What should I do?
My apologies, looks like I've had incorrect setup instructions here for years! I have updated the instructions, so take a look at those. It's important that you right click the .exe and create your own shortcut, instead of using the one I included in the zip folder.
OK, I did that but when I entered the IP into my phone's web browser, it still said "this site can't be reached" :<
Dang, I'm sorry, I've been looking into the HappyFunTimes system that manages the controllers, and it sounds like it's not really being supported anymore. Maybe I will have to adapt the game to support game controllers :/
That's Really Cool But Will There Be Controller Supported Soon?
Or Only Phone?
Doing the whole thing with the shortcut, I get the following text on my screen: "The name ' --hft-installation-mode' specified in the target box is not valid. Make sure the file name and path are correct."
Hey, i've just downloaded the game but it doesn't work. I did the shortcut thing, but when I try to run the game only appears a background and nothing else. What can I do?
This game is controlled using your phone, so you need to connect to the game with your phone's browser. Here how you do it:
- Take any device with a web browser and connect to the same wifi network as the computer running the game
- In your device's web browser, type the IP address of the computer running the game (You can find your computer's IP address by typing "ipconfig" into Command Prompt and using the IPv4 Address number)
- After entering the IP into the browser, a button and a D-pad should appear on the screen of your smart device (make sure it is held sideways), and a cat should appear on the computer screen to show that you've joined
- Drop in as many players as you like. You need at least two to play the game, but it plays best with six or more.
so I did all that but my phone says that the ip I put in search bar is an unreachable site what do I do
Make sure your phone is connected to the same wifi as your computer, and turn your data off. Let me know if that works.
If not, double-check the instructions for making the shortcut.
ive made the shortcut but its doing that still the datas off and I copied the ip4 off of cmd its still not working
oh and ive tried on multiple devices
Cute stuff~
hello! If I did a video of this game, would I be able to monetize it?
I don't really have a problem with that. I'd appreciate the publicity! Just make sure you properly credit my team and I.
Will do! :)
